Dr Hayes is certified in Canine Rehabilitation, Arthroscopy and Stem Cell Treatments. The advanced training to specialize in Canine Rehabilitation takes several weeks of classes over a 12 month period and an internship with a certified practicing rehabilitation therapist. Canine Rehabilitation Institute offers the courses to veterinarians and physical therapists.
Rehabilitation services include exercise protocols, in-patient treatment, post-operative recovery plans, weight management, conditioning programs, laser therapy and TENS.
She is now offering stem cell treatments, Arthroscopy and Canine Rehabilitation as service to our patients. She has also written a new handout about the advances in Stem cell treatment for dogs and cats!
Dr. Hayes has always wanted to be a veterinarian. After high school graduation, having already worked in a veterinary hospital for 3 years, she attended Lincoln Land Community College. She attained acceptance to the University of Illinois College of Veterinary Medicine upon graduation from Lincoln Land. One of only a few students to be accepted to the Veterinary College with only an Associates Degree. In 1985, she received a Bachelors of Veterinary Medicine and in 1987, graduated from University of Illinois College of Veterinary Medicine with honors and having been awarded the Lester A. Fisher award for proficiency in small animal medicine.
After graduation, she joined Dr Whitney at Whitney Veterinary Hospital. Now the owner of the hospital, she still enjoys people and pets as much as always. Her special interests include internal medicine, surgery, and special diagnostics, including ultrasound, endoscopy, myelography, and arthroscopy. She also enjoys senior care and behavior issues.
Dr. Hayes has previously served as an officer of the Tri County Animal Emergency Clinic, Peoria County Veterinary Medical Association, and the Mississippi Valley Veterinary Medical Association. She also attends at least two region or national continuing education meetings a year to keep abreast of the cutting edge of medicine.
In her spare time, Dr. Hayes enjoys showing dogs in obedience, agility and confirmation. She also tends a large flower garden, reads and enjoys craft projects.
Dr. Hayes lives in a Peoria suburb with her mother and her Flatcoated Retriever, Weeds, and 2 Golden Retrievers, Ami and Poppy.
